A Moment from Pushkin (Yevgeny Onegin)
TATYANA:

I am stunned, I cannot
understand Yevgeny; I am tormented
by pangs of jealousy!

Oh, my heart is torn with anguish!
Like an ice cold hand …
… it clutches at my heart
painfully, cruelly!

Ah, I am lost, I am lost!
I feel it in my heart,
but destruction by him is dear to me!
I am doomed, I am doomed,
my heart told me as much,
I dare not, I cannot complain!

Ah, why complain?
He cannot make me happy.
I am doomed, my heart tells me as much,
I know it!

Quiz: What Temperment Are You?
You Have a Choleric Temperament

You are a person of great enthusiasm - easily excited by many things.
Unsatisfied by the ordinary, you are reaching for an epic, extraordinary life. You want the best. The best life. The best love. The best reputation.

You posses a sharp and keen intellect. Your mind is your primary weapon.
Strong willed, nothing can keep you down. Your energy can break down any wall.You're an instantly passionate person - and this passion gives you an intoxicating power over others.

At your worst, you are a narcissist. Full of yourself and even proud of your faults. Stubborn and opinionated, you know what you think is right. End of discussion. A bit of a misanthrope, you often see others as weak, ignorant, and inferior.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the other hand, I've also gotten this result:
You Have a Melancholic Temperament
Introspective and reflective, you think about everything and anything.
You are a soft-hearted daydreamer. You long for your ideal life.
You love silence and solitude. Everyday life is usually too chaotic for you.
Given enough time alone, it's easy for you to find inner peace.
You tend to be spiritual, having found your own meaning of life.
Wise and patient, you can help people through difficult times.
At your worst, you brood and sulk. Your negative thoughts can trap you.
You are reserved and withdrawn. This makes it hard to connect to others.
You tend to over think small things, making decisions difficult.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I seem to go back and forth between these two temperment types. It all depends on the environment that I'm in and whether or not I'm comfortable and/or content. In many ways, I'm a contradiction.

Random Thoughts on Pirates 3
It was yesturday afternoon and it suddenly occured to me that Pirates 3 had officially come out after special viewings the night before. And so I immediately logged on to Yahoo! movies, found a viewing and found myself at a local movie theater some forty minutes later. If you're a loser like me and don't yet have a stable day job, or find yourself with a day off, I'd recommend mid-day as the best time to go to the movies. Even the most popular releases will have small crowds as everyone else is at work or in school.

WARNING: the following the text below has many SPOILERS. So if you have not yet seen Pirates 3 and don't want to know the fate of certain characters, you might not want to read this.

Overall, I very much enjoyed the film and found it quite entertaining. The visual effects were amazing, the acting as wonderful as ever and it was very exciting to watch. On the other hand, the plot was hard to follow and I felt some scenes were simply not necessary. One critic remarked said someting along the lines of 'Do we really need to death of a young boy on the gallows in the opening scene?' Yes. I know....the point they are trying to make is that Pirates everywhere around the world (men, women and children) are in danger because of the evil Beckett and his control of Davy Jones and thus---the sea. But I thought this scene with all of those mass executions on the gallows was a bit much. Alot of the movie was more about spectacle, rather than a well-concieved plot. I didn't really get the significance of the nine Pirate Lords. Yes----their coming together was impressive---but what did it really accomplish? They really didn't seem to solve anything nor did they really ban together for that big, final fight. It just seemed like an excuse to introduce a ton more impressive and eccentric characters.

Some of the character deaths really pissed me off. It was like Ok, so Elizabeth's father (Governor Swann) and Norrington have served their purpose in the plot, so let's just kill them off! I was particularly upset about Norrington---he's always been one of my favorite characters! The scene where Elizabeth recognizes her father traveling in one of those boats to the beyond is also very heartbreaking!

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny. He was as awesome as ever as Captain Jack Sparrow. I will never get tired of his utterly masterful portrayal. He steals every scene that he's in! Rush as Barbossa kicked some serious ass too. I'm really glad that they brought him back for this movie for he's brilliant! Really, overall, the acting was the movie's strongest point. Bloom and Knightley have greatly improved....and did well with what they've had to work with in the character department.

I thought the whole Calypso/Davy Jones storyline was interesting. But apparrently (and according to the writers) some important scenes were cut that tied that up and clarified the terms of the curse and the parallels between Will and Elizabeth. After tons of internet searches, I think I finally understand it...but I'm not sure how many other people will. And they probably won't understand anything without having seen the first two films and doing the research on their own.

So Calypso and Davy Jones (The Flying Dutchman) were romantically involved. The Flying Dutchman can only come ashore every ten years. If he finds a woman to love and if she is faithful throughout those ten years, the curse is lifted. There is no clarification as to whether he can live out his days as a man on land if his lady is faithful or whether he still has to be captain of the Flying Dutchmanm, regardless or not if she's been faithful to him during those ten years. Calypso, a Goddess whose nature is as wild and turbulent as the sea was not faithful/waiting for Davy Jones when he came ashore after a period of ten years. Because of this, the curse remained on him and he became so bitter that he neglected his duties of seeing the souls into the beyond and in turn, he and his crew became deformed and sea-creature like. I still don't think I totally understand it. And I'm not sure exactly what happened when he was killed and tossed into the sea. Perhaps, as his last word was 'Calypso!' he would be reunited with her at least.

So all of this parallels Will and Elizabeth's story. Will is fatally wounded by Davy Jones, his sword goes through Davy's heart and his heart has to take it's place (literally) and so he becomes Captain of the Flying Dutchman. You know...this is the first time I have ever felt for Will and Elizabeth. I've never been particularly fond of either character...but my heart ached when Will spent his day on the beach with Elizabeth (their brief honeymoon as husband and wife) and had to leave for the Dutchman at sunset for their ten years apart. Imagine---ten years without your soulmate! How sad is that?! And after the credits, it's straight ahead to ten years later as Elizabeth and Will Jr. are awaiting Will's return.

(I had intially embedded a youtube video clip here that shows this most moving scene that I'm talking about, but Disney keeps busting people and they keep getting taken down. More will probably crop up though and I'd recommend doing a search. And if you manage to find one and can rip it off the site---please send it over! When it was up and in my LJ I couldn't stop watching and drooling over it.)

If you pay close attention, as the sun sets and that haunting theme is played by an oboe, you can see the green light flash on Elizabeth's face. The signficance of the green light is that when it flashes, a soul has returned from beyond. So I guess that means Will and Elizabeth will get to live out their lives together? I'm not sure. But seeing this in the theaters just killed me when I thought that they might only be allowed to have one day together every ten years! Can you imagine how much that would suck? To be parted from your true love like that?

By the way---Orlando Bloom. I've never been a fan of boyish looking men....but yeah...he is definitely getting better looking with age. That shot of him coming ashore in that after credits scene is the best that he's ever looked. He has also really grown as an actor. I found myself getting really teary-eyed in the final scenes.

In all, despite it's problems, it's certainly worth seeing. I still like the first one the best---as the plot is easier to follow and it stands very well alone. But I'd say that I prefer it a bit more than the second. And I'd definitely recommend it. But unless you do some research ahead of time---you're probably going to be really confused.

Quiz: What Tarot Card Are You?

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

Songs I can relate to :-(
Someone to Watch Over Me

There's a saying old
Says that love is blind -
Still we're often told,
"Seek and ye shalI find."
So I'm going to seek
A certain lad I've had in mind.
Looking everywhere,
Haven't found him yet;
He's the big affair
I cannot forget.
Only man I ever
Think of with regret.
I'd like to add his initials to my monogram.
Tell me, where is the shepherd for this lost
lamb.
There's a somebody I'm longing to see
I hope that he
Turns out to be
Someone who'll watch over me.
I'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood.
I know I could
Always be good
To one who'll watch over me.
Although he may not be the man some
Girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key.
Won't you telI him please to put on some
speed -
Follow my lead -
Oh! How I need
Someone to watch over me.
Someone to watch over me.

Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here...
Me, oh, my country man,
Wish You Were Here...
I Wish You Were Here...
Don't you know, the snow is getting colder,
And I miss you like hell,
And I'm feeling blue...
I've got feelings for you,
Do you still feel the same?
From the first time I laid my eyes on you,
I felt joy of living,
I saw heaven in your eyes...
In your eyes...
Wish you were here...
Me, oh, my country man,
Wish You Were Here...
I Wish You Were Here...
Don't you know the snow is getting colder,
And I miss you like hell...
And I'm feeling blue...
I miss your laugh, I miss your smile,
I miss everything about you...
Every second's like a minute,
Every minute's like a day
When you're far away...
The snow is getting colder, baby,
I Wish You Were Here...
A battlefield of love and fear,
And I Wish You Were Here...
I've got feelings for you,
From the first time I laid my eyes on you...

~~~~
and in reference to the past life thing....
When I Look At You
When I look at you, what I always see
Is the face of someone else who once belonged to me
Still I can hear him laugh
And even though that melody plays on, he's gone
When I look at you, he is standing there
I can almost breathe him in like summer in the air
Why do you smile his smile?
That heaven I'd forgotten eases through, in you
If you could look at me once more
With all the love you felt before
If you and I could disappear into the past
And find that love we knew
I'd never take my eyes away from you
When I look at you, he is touching me
I would reach for him, but who can hold a memory?
And love isn't everything
That moonlight on the bed will melt away, someday
Oh, you were once that someone
Who I followed like a star
Then suddenly you changed,
And now I don't know who you are
Or could it be that I never really knew you from the start?
Did I create a dream?
Was he a fantasy?
Even a memory is paradise for all the fools like me
Now, remembering is all that I can do
Because I miss him so, when I look at you
~~~~

Somewhere

There's a place for us,
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere.

There's a time for us,
Some day a time for us,
Time together with time spare,
Time to learn, time to care,
Some day!

Somewhere.
We'll find a new way of living,
We'll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere . . .

There's a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we're halfway there.
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow,
Some day,
Somewhere!

If I could only dream this world away...
If I could only dream this world away
I'd awake
In your arms
If I could keep this bitter life at bay
Wide awake
In your arms

The vow that keeps me from you
I cannot undo
I'm lost
Lost in a fantasy that can't come true

If I could only dream this world away
I'd awake
In your arms
I long to sleep forever
Dreaming only of you
I'm lost
How many nights like this can I go through?
